Chess Awards 2026

The chess season came to an end with the medal ceremony for our young players, followed by a wonderful pizza party that brought children and parents together around the chessboards one last time before the summer break.

The most successful season in the history of our club — until the next one, of course — officially concluded on Saturday, May 16th with the awards ceremony and the celebration that followed.

Let us look back at some of the highlights of this remarkable season.

In the Luxembourg Interclubs Championship, our first team finished in an impressive 3rd place in Division I and came very close to achieving a surprising promotion. This is a tremendous accomplishment considering that our team is mainly built around children aged 10 to 14, supported by only a few teenagers and adults. Nevertheless, the talent and fighting spirit of these young players allowed the team to compete for promotion to the Promotion d’Honneur division until the very end.

Our Team B, which is also mostly composed of children aged 8 to 12, managed to remain in Division III with the help of a few experienced adults. We are confident that the valuable experience these young players gained this season will help them reach even higher levels next year.

In the Youth Team Championship, the absence of two of our strongest teenagers forced us to compete in Division II, where we still managed to secure an excellent 2nd place finish. The club’s participation in the competition was massive and once again demonstrated the growing strength of our youth program.

The year 2026 started in fantastic fashion during the Luxembourg Youth Individual Championships, where our players won the national title in three out of the six age categories. Youth Team Championship

Nikolai became Luxembourg Champion in the U10 category, Olaf won the U12 title, and Nicola was crowned U14 Luxembourg Champion.

Dario finished as runner-up in the U14 category, while Luisa earned an excellent 3rd place in the U8 championship. Once again, the club had one of the strongest and largest participations in the entire event. --> Championnat Individuel des Jeunes 2026

In the ABC Championship, where adults also compete, Jan won the title in Category C for players rated under 1700 Elo, while Nikolai finished in an outstanding 2nd place. --> Championnat Individuel ABC 2026

After all these individual and team successes came another important reward: recognition from the Luxembourg Chess Federation itself. No fewer than eight players from our club were selected for the national youth teams, while two more players remain strong candidates to join later on.

Nicola, Dario, Jan, and Olaf will represent Luxembourg at the World Under-14 Championship in Montesilvano, while Nikolai will participate in the World Under-10 Championship in Batumi and Luisa will compete in the World Under-8 Championship, also in Batumi.

After the awards ceremony came the perfect combination: the moment when chess meets pizza!

Children and parents had the opportunity to play friendly games against each other while enjoying slices of pizza together. Because the role of a chess club is not only to exist on the chessboard, but also beyond it — creating friendships, memories, and a true community spirit.

We would like to thank all the children and parents for this unforgettable season, and we hope that every year we continue to grow stronger, better, and even more united.
